Our Scholars & Donors
Thank you for your continued support of the arts in our schools. You have let me be creative with the kids and my program is flourishing because of it.
Our family wanted to create a scholarship that recognizes community service and volunteerism, but we didn’t know where to start. Thanks to the Education Foundation, we’re now supporting amazing students every year as they strive to improve the world around them.
Both Rod and Mary Anne were recipients of college scholarships which allowed them lengthy careers in seminary education. "Establishing a scholarship fund is one way we can provide that same boost to current students".
Program Highlights
Clay Art Theater
"[Our goal was that] students will demonstrate perseverance with new tasks in a non-academic learning environment. We taught new skills for several clay projects with an Artist in Residence. We had great success with students who learned that often mistakes in art turn our to be the most interesting aspect of their art pieces."
Lifetime Balance Skills
"There is a high need in our school for active opportunities that fall outside the scope of traditional ball sports. Rollerblading is an activity that can be easily learned by young students, and by doing so they will acquire a lifetime's worth of transferable balance skills. … The kids were so, so excited to rollerblade each day, and they were so supportive of each other and helping their friends and classmates learn to skate. There's probably 20-40 kids that are going to get rollerblades for Christmas now because of this grant, because so many kids want to keep doing it outside of school. We are all really grateful that this was made possible this year. Thank you!"
Mary Poppins Jr. Tap Dance Numbers
"The musical each year unites students of all ages and from different back grounds and skill sets to create a group project of a full musical. Students design and create sets. They also have a chance to be leaders in the process of student directing. Students can choose to be on the acting or technology crew and the process lasts most of the school year. This year we [added] tap dance and choreography to the production process. We hosted three elementary schools and students were excited to watch and extremely engaged as they asked questions at the end of each show. We also performed four other shows for the community in both evening and afternoon matinees. The feedback was also extremely positive and each night students received standing ovations. … The tap shoes and skills will continue to be used in our after school program and in upcoming musicals at Wyeast Middle School and our high school."
