Every year HRCEF hosts a bike raffle to raise funds for our Board of Directors Scholarship Fund. This fund is relatively new, but to-date we have awarded over $82,000 in scholarships from this fund. This year eight HRVHS seniors and five HRVHS graduates will receive an additional $16,500 from the Board of Directors Scholarship Fund. All proceeds from this raffle go directly to students.

The Board of Directors Scholarship is one of 46 scholarship funds managed by HRCEF. In 2022, we awarded over $196,000 to the HRVHS class of 2022 and an additional $34,000 to HRVHS graduates who are currently pursuing 2-year, 4-year, or trade degrees. Since our founding in 1991, HRCEF has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships to local high school graduates.

Purchase your tickets online or by stopping by the Roasuers customer service desk. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25. The raffle drawing will be held at noon on August 1 at Rosauers.

Thank you for supporting Hood River County students as they pursue their educational goals. We also want to thank Oregon E-Bikes, TicketTomato, and Rosauers for their continued support of HRCEF and our mission.

HRCEF Awards 2022 Impact Teaching Grants

Posted on March 10, 2022

HRCEF board member Aspen McKenna (left), HRCSD Superintendent Rich Polkinghorn (center), and HRCSD Director of Curriculum & Instruction Bill Newton (right) are excited for this year’s grants!

Hood River County Education Foundation (HRCEF) set another new record for sending funds into classrooms in the Hood River County School District with their 2022 Impact Teaching Grants. Over $41,000 was awarded to 40 educators representing most of the schools in the district. HRCEF has been providing grants to educators for more than 25 years.

Grants will provide everything from new robots for the Fab Bus (a mobile computer lab and “maker space” that provides lessons in computer programming, engineering & robotics to elementary students at every school), to a new telescope at Hood River Middle School for night time “star parties” to supplement classroom instruction in Earth Science.

“I was thrilled with the quality of proposals from teachers that will explore new ways to teach, new areas to study, and creative uses of technology,” reported Aspen McKenna, chair of the HRCEF program. “HRCEF continues to provide more funds for Impact Teaching Grants every year, and luckily our donors and fundraisers have kept pace with the requests. 2020 and 2021 have been tough years for fund-raising as COVID 19 has taken our in-person fundraisers off the calendar. We really depend on our donors in these circumstances and they have come through.”

Learn More About the 2022 Impact Teaching Grant Projects

Educators submit a brief application form for these grants, asking details about the planned educational experience, the number of students and the cost per student, among others. All HRCEF Board members, all volunteers, score the grants–21 this year.

Impact Teaching Grants also awarded $30,000 this year for elementary and middle school field trips and in-school events that bring the “field trips to the school.”

A Special Request to The Hood River Community

The Impact Teaching Grants are funded entirely by members of the Hood River County Community. With no in-person fundraising events this year due to COVID, HRCEF is hosting an online raffle to raise funds for the Impact Teaching Grants Program. This online raffle is the Hood River County Education Foundation’s primary fundraiser for Impact Teaching Grants. We need YOUR help to make next year’s innovative teaching ideas a reality for students across Hood River County.

Thanks to generous donations from community members, raffle participants may win one (or more) of 12 fabulous prizes, including concert tickets, dinner parties, vacations, children’s toys, and more! An anonymous donor is also partially matching some raffle ticket purchases. Click one either button to learn more about our raffle and support the Impact Teaching Grants Program.

The Hood River County Education Foundation is a 501c3 (non-profit) agency whose mission is to support the students, educators and schools of the Hood River County School District. We are not a part of the school district. Along with Impact Teaching Grant, our major programs include post-secondary scholarships for graduates of Hood River Valley High School, and the Opportunity Fund, which helps supports equitable student access to fee-based school activities. Funds for all of our programs come from fundraising and generous donors.
